Frequently Asked Questions
You have questions. Dr. Jeff has answers. Dr. Jeff says…
What do you mean by the word “spirituality” in your “Get Out of the
Way—I’m Late for My Life!®” books?
I use the word “spirituality” to refer to the
resiliency of mankind and the unique ability that the human spirit has to
turn tragedies into triumphs.
Are your “Get Out of the Way—I’m Late for My Life!®” books religious or meant
to promote any particular movement?
No. The life lessons in my books are quick and easy ways to improve the
overall quality of daily living and they are designed for everyone from all
walks of life. They contain simple suggestions for profound change that resonate
with many cross-sections of people from diverse cultures and religious backgrounds.
They are intended to nurture the human spirit in each of us and are not meant
to promote any particular movement.
Are you a religious person? If not, how do you feel about religion?
Although I frequently accept invitations to speak at spiritual retreats
and religious functions, I don’t consider myself to be a religious person.
I am a people person, and I have the immense honor of working with audiences
that are largely comprised of culturally and religiously diverse people.
For this reason, I am respectful of the cultural and religious differences
of those around me. My work motivates me to accentuate the similarities between
all people and to celebrate their diversity.
I look at world religions this way: I could spend my life searching for
the unpleasantness in everything or discovering the joy in anything. I much prefer
the latter.
Why did you get a Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Counseling Psychology?
I’ve always enjoyed helping people reach their full potential. I felt the
best way I could help the largest amount of people in the shortest amount of
time was to become a self-help author and to reach people through books, TV,
and radio. It usually takes credentials (such as a Ph.D.) in order for those
doors to open up to you. My Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Counseling Psychology
has helped me to reach and help thousands of people over the last several years
through my books, radio and TV experiences. I also consult with clients across
the nation and in other countries via telephone on a weekly basis.
Are you a licensed psychotherapist or psychologist?
While I do have a Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Counseling Psychology and
give self-help advice on TV, radio and abroad, I am not a licensed
psychotherapist or psychologist. Due to confidentiality laws and other
regulations, it is illegal to practice psychotherapy and psychology on TV
and radio. It is also illegal to practice psychotherapy and psychology in
states/countries that you are not licensed in—each state has its own
individual licensing process which takes many years to complete. It is only
legal to give self-help or relationship advice on TV, radio, and
in other states/countries for which you are not licensed. I am a self-help author,
speaker, and consultant with a Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Counseling
Psychology who gives self-help and relationship advice. |
